Introduction to Chinese Art

Join artist and China scholar Heather Gray (高雷蕾) for this fascinating introduction to Chinese art.

The focus will will be on Chinese ink painting (画画) and calligraphy (书法). Over the 5 classes we will learn about the significance of ink painting and calligraphy in Chinese culture and explore how Chinese art differs from art in other parts of the world. We will also delve into the work of some traditional and contemporary Chinese artists such as Xu Beihong & Ai Xuan.

We will be creating our own work using the four treasures; bamboo brushes 毛笔; ink 墨水; paper 纸张; & ink stones 砚台.
